The Waltham Fire Department’s Student Awareness of Fire Education outreach team visited Northeast Elementary School for its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) night on Thursday, April 16. The Tower 1 crew helped with experiments by dropping various objects from its extended aerial platform. WFD SAFE Coordinator Lt. Mike Murphy joined the Tower 1 crew at the school for this annual event.

Outside, the WFD Tower 1 crew stole the show as they assisted with the school’s experiments, dropping water balloons encased in various protective packages and equipped with different parachute technologies. The experiments were then evaluated by the teaching staff to judge how well the technologies performed in real-world conditions. Courtesy of WFD.
