Kitchen fire damages Waltham apartment
Firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire in a third-floor apartment at 31 Middlesex Circle on Monday afternoon, July 27, according to the Waltham police scanner. Responders assisted an adult and a child from the unit. No injuries were reported.
The Waltham Fire Department responded to the address at about 2:44 p.m. after receiving a central station fire alarm activation. While crews were en route, the call was upgraded to a reported building fire, bringing additional companies to the scene.
Arriving firefighters encountered smoke conditions and confirmed a working fire in the apartment’s kitchen. Crews stretched a hose line and knocked down the flames within minutes, then searched the building and checked to make sure the fire had not spread beyond the apartment.
An adult and a child were assisted from the unit by firefighters and evaluated at the scene by Armstrong Ambulance. The adult signed a medical refusal and declined transport to a hospital. The child was also evaluated at the scene and was not transported.

Crews remained on scene afterward to conduct overhaul operations, ventilate the apartment and check for hidden fire extension. The residents were not allowed to return because of damage to the dwelling.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
