Newton Wellesley Hospital is offering free walk-in clinics for adults who wish to get the flu vaccine. The clinic will be offered at the Healthy Waltham Mobile Food Market at 5 Cherry St. in Waltham. See the schedule posted below.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at higher risk of serious complications from influenza.

Most people who get flu will recover in a few days to less than two weeks. Some people will develop complications such as ear and sinus infections and pneumonia. In the U.S., 13.5 out of 100,000 people die of flu or pneumonia, making these the 12th leading cause of death among Americans.

Flu vaccination has important benefits. It can reduce flu illnesses, visits to doctor’s offices, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as make symptoms less severe and reduce flu-related hospitalizations and deaths in people who get vaccinated but still get sick.
