Richard “Dick” Pizzi, 89, built Pizzi Farm into a North Waltham landmark

Richard “Dick” Pizzi, owner of the popular Pizzi Farm Market & Ice Cream, died from Alzheimer’s disease on Sunday, August 30, 2026. He was 89 and had been living at the Hospice House in Lincoln.

Located at the intersection of Lake and Lincoln streets in North Waltham, Pizzi Farm Market is best known for its ice cream, attracting long lines of customers to its outdoor shop in warmer weather. The building also houses a bakery, deli and garden center.

Pizzi owned the original Pizzi Farm until 1986, when he subdivided it into Briar Glen Village apartments and Pizzi Farms Condominiums. 

His grandfather had purchased the 35-acre farm, featuring apple and peach orchards, in 1933. Over the years, the farm added additional fruits and vegetables. 

The current Pizzi Farm Market was built in 1963. Pizzi’s son, Richard Jr., and daughter Cheryl are currently in the permitting process of selling the Pizzi Farm Market property to developers to build six two-family homes and one single-family home.

Born in Waltham on March 25, 1937, Pizzi was the son of Domenico and Angela Pizzi and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alba (Leone) Pizzi. He held an associate’s degree in business from Curry College.

Pizzi belonged to several social and industry organizations, including the New England Vegetable Growers Association and the Massachusetts Flower Growers Association. He was a past president of both the Waltham Lions Club and Opportunities for Inclusion. He served on the board of the Waltham Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Pizzi on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mary Catherine Chapel of the Brasco Family Funeral Home, 773 Moody St. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Pizzi will then be laid to rest at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St., Newton.
