2 charged, 1 arrested after crash on Crescent Street

Two men were charged and one was arrested early Monday morning after a high-speed crash caused damage to multiple properties, including a utility pole, on Crescent Street, according to a statement from the Waltham Police Department.

Police said that officers on patrol witnessed a white Volkswagen Golf GTI and a black BMW M340i crash into buildings at 395, 397, and 410 Crescent St. and a utility pole, after traveling southbound on Crescent at a high rate of speed. 

The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. on Feb. 10.

Police said three male occupants of the two vehicles fled the scene on foot.

Officers found one of them, a 20-year-old passenger, nearby; first responders treated him for minor injuries.

The operator of the Volkswagen, Adam Devaney, 18, of 11 Kelley Lane, Atkinson, N.H., was arrested and charged at 2:38 a.m. with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, speeding, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.

However, according to a police spokesperson, the operator of the BMW fled the scene and was unable to be located at the time of the accident. 

A later investigation identified the operator as a 19-year-old Burlington man; police declined to share their name pending his court arraignment.

The Burlington man was given a court summons and was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, and speeding.

A spokesperson for the Waltham police said this incident was not considered drag racing.
