Salvatore “Sal” Cimino, 1955–2025, had a passion for bodybuilding

Salvatore “Sal” Cimino of Waltham passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2025, in his home at the age of 70.

Born on March 5, 1955, in Grotte, Italy, beloved son of Carmello and Maria (Tirone) Cimino, Sal immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 7 in 1962. He has resided in Waltham ever since.

A graduate of Waltham Vocational High School with the Class of 1973, Sal was a self-employed welder fabricator throughout his life.

Although Sal had many different hobbies and interests, his passion was weight lifting and bodybuilding. He kept himself in amazing shape and had competed in many bodybuilding physical fitness competitions over the years and won several. Music was another passion of his and Elvis was at the top of the list. Sal loved gardening, planting his own tomatoes, vegetable plants and flowers. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, grilling and barbecuing. He was always sharing with others his cheese and prosciutto platters. He also liked dining out in Boston’s North End. Sal had a love for animals, especially his cat Bruno.

Family and friends were most important to Sal, and over the years he became a caretaker for his mother.

Sal is survived by his siblings Antonietta Cardinale of New York, Calogero”Charles” Cimino of Waltham, Maria Mills of Waltham, Alfonso Cimino of Waltham, Concetta Napolitani of Nevada, Celestina “Celeste” Cimino of Waltham and Gracella Perone of Connecticut. In addition, he is survived by many cousins, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Those who wish to pay their respects to Salvatore and his family can do so in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham, on Tuesday morning, June 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. Parking attendants will be on duty.
