Francis Dennis Mahoney, 1939–2026, was ‘a man of gentle spirit’

Francis “Franny” Dennis Mahoney, of Waltham, MA, passed away peacefully in his home in West Newton, MA on the morning of Thursday, April 23, 2026, following a series of health challenges. Franny was surrounded by his wife, son and daughter. He was 87.
Franny was born and raised in Waltham, MA, and where he spent the greater part of his life. He was employed for many years with the Raytheon Company, from which he proudly retired.
Franny and his beloved wife Marjorie cherished spending their summers in Marshfield, MA with family and friends, sharing fond memories year after year.
A man of gentle spirit, Franny found deep joy in the simple pleasures of life. Those who knew him would describe him as a “hell of a guy”; a good person, a solid friend, always willing to listen and to lend a helping hand. He was known for having a great sense of humor as well. When asked about the best times of his life, he would tell you without hesitation, it would be any moment spent with his family.
He was the beloved son of the late Dennis and Theresa (Burns) Mahoney, the father of the late Francis Mahoney, Jr. and the devoted brother of the late Howard Mahoney, Daniel Mahoney, Terrence Mahoney, Judith Diodato and Richard Mahoney.
Franny is survived by the love of his life, his wife Marjorie Mahoney, whom he married at Saint Patrick’s Church in Watertown, MA, 65 year ago; his daughter and devoted caregiver, Kelley Mahoney of Framingham, MA; his son, Shawn Mahoney of Chelsea, MA; his cherished granddaughter, Haley Rose Marino of Waltham, MA; his brother, William Mahoney of California; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A funeral service in celebration of Francis Mahoney’s life will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of the Brasco & Sons Family Memorial Chapel, 773 Moody Street, Waltham, MA on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to visit and share memories with his family. An interment will follow at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown, MA.
