Public Safety Report: Deadline for firefighter entrance exam closes in

The deadline to apply for the state’s firefighter entrance exam is Aug. 27, according to Lt. Michael Murphy, the Waltham Fire Department’s public information officer.

The written portion of the 2025 municipal firefighter exam will take place at testing sites throughout the state from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4.

The entry-level physical ability test will take place once a candidate has applied for the exam. More information on the exam and testing sites can be found on the state’s website.

A summary of public safety actions from Aug. 1 to 6 is as follows:

On Aug. 1 at 12:48 p.m., an individual came into the police station at 155 Lexington St. to report an identity theft. Officers discovered that someone had fraudulently charged the reporting party’s credit card for $300.

Jose Burgos-Dominguez, 25, of 21 Garden Lane, Waltham, was arrested near Waltham Common at 8:51 p.m. for disorderly conduct and two counts of assault and battery. According to a police spokesperson, a witness called police, saying Burgos-Dominguez and another individual had gotten into a physical fight in the park.

On Aug. 2 at 6:14 a.m., police responded to a report of illegal dumping at a Cedar Street residence. Someone had unlawfully dumped a mattress on the property. Officers advised the residents to contact the Department of Public Works for its removal.

At 12:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a larceny at Market Basket at 110 Market Place Drive.

At 6:11 p.m. police responded to a report of a stolen bike at an Amherst Avenue residence. The reporting party had called police to report it stolen, but a neighbor ended up finding the bicycle on a nearby property.

On Aug. 3 at 8:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a past breaking and entering incident at a Summer Street residence. Officers discovered that someone had allegedly entered the reporting party’s home and stolen $15,000 in cash and multiple Chanel handbags. The incident is under investigation.

Dominique Wardsworth, 36, of 12 Lambert St., Roxbury, was arrested at 9:09 p.m. on warrants for possession of a class B drug with the intent to distribute, defacing a firearm serial number, possession of ammunition without an FID card, felony possession of a firearm and three counts of carrying a firearm without a license.

Peter Ciesluk, 40, of 29 Friend St., Watertown, was arrested at 11:28 p.m. on warrants for carrying a dangerous weapon, larceny from a building, attempting to commit a crime, possession of a class B drug, trespassing, receiving stolen property, larceny under $1,200, two counts of possession of a burglarious instrument and three counts of breaking and entering.

On Aug. 4 at 12:54 a.m., police responded to a Lowell Street residence to check on the well-being of an individual at the request of the Newton Police Department. Officers were unable to locate the individual.

At 5:01 p.m. the Fire Department responded to a small mulch fire outside a Totten Pond Road address. Firefighter extinguished the blaze.

At 10:19 p.m., police responded to a report of an unwanted person at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Boston-Waltham at 250 Second Ave. Employees told police that Mohammed Al-Harbi, 40, of 424 Second St., Miami, Fla., had been smoking in the nonsmoking area and had been argumentative with staff members. Employees wanted him removed from the property. Al-Harbi was subsequently arrested for trespassing.

On Aug. 5 at 2 a.m., Gerson Pineda-Jimenez, 34, of 95 Crescent St., Waltham, was arrested for failure to use care when starting a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

At 8:49 a.m. police responded to a report of a larceny at a Calvary Street residence. Officers discovered that someone had fraudulently charged the reporting party’s credit card for $636.

Kevin Yerardi, 51, of 52 Henshaw St., Newton, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. for a suspended driver’s license and warrants for a suspended or revoked motor vehicle registration and operating a motor vehicle with a restricted license.

Auner La Rosa-Cortez, 24, of 44 Garden Circle, Waltham, was arrested at 10:50 p.m. for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, not having an inspection sticker and having a suspended motor vehicle registration.

On Aug. 6 at 11:16 a.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting at The Home Depot at 100 First Ave. Employees had thought someone had stolen a vacuum cleaner worth $139 but their suspicions turned out to be unfounded.

Joel Madden, 39, of 19 Burnham St., Belmont, was arrested at 2:15 p.m. on a warrant for felony breaking and entering.

At 8:20 p.m. police responded to a report of a missing child at a Lowell Street residence. A child had left the house without a parent’s permission. The incident is under investigation.
