The week ahead: Additional meetings in the City of Waltham

Many of the city’s boards are meeting this week to address items of city business. Here are some boards focusing on affordable housing and public health that will be meeting this week:

Housing Authority

The Waltham Housing Authority works to provide affordable housing options for Waltham residents who face barriers to housing.

The housing authority’s board of commissioners will be voting on the adoption of the NSPIRE inspection standards for Section 8 housing vouchers, accepting funding contracts with the city, and approving a joint program with the Arlington Housing Authority.

The board will be meeting over Zoom on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Biosafety Committee

The Waltham Biosafety Committee is a five-person board including the director of public health and the chair of the Board of Health, in charge of reviewing permits for using or experimenting with recombinant DNA technology, as well as reviewing any regulations on the topic.

This week, the committee will hear two applications for recombinant DNA permits for SeQure Dx, purchased this year by MaxCyte, and General Biological.

The committee will meet in the auditorium of the Clark Government Center at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Municipal Affordable Housing Trust

The Municipal Affordable Housing Trust is a board charged by city ordinance to oversee the city’s affordable housing trust fund.

This week, members of the board will be discussing updates around the Hardy Residences and the former Fernald State School’s Cardinal Cottage.

Its next meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, in the basement conference room of City Hall.

Board of Health

The Board of Health works to address potential public health problems in the city, including  communicable diseases, foodborne illnesses, and housing and environmental safety.

The board will be discussing items around businesses Rose Aromatherapy and Best Reflexology.

The board will  meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the auditorium of the Clark Government Center.
