In advance of the Nov. 4 municipal election, the League of Women Voters has been holding candidates’ nights for City Council and School Committee candidates to present their positions to voters.

This week, the organization is hosting an event for the City Council’s ward councilor candidates to discuss their positions. All ward councilor candidates this year are incumbents running unopposed.

Like last week’s School Committee and at-large councilor candidate nights, this event will be livestreamed and posted on the Channel 781 News YouTube account.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the city’s Clark Government Center at 119 School St.

City Council

This week City Council is scheduled to finalize decisions from last week’s committee meetings. It plans to approve the reappointment of First Assistant City Solicitor Luke Stanton; a resolution to set up a bike-sharing program in the spring; a street opening permit on Tavern Road; funding requests for a stormwater contamination project and the Mayor’s Benevolent Fund; and a series of extended hours and used car sales permits.

It will also open up two new public hearings — one for a street opening for infrastructure work in front of a private home on Hammond Street and an extended hours permit for a McDonald’s drive-through on Main Street. It will likely forward a list of extended hours, used car sales, fuel storage and Massport application permits for discussion at next week’s committee meetings.

City Council will meet at City Hall Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Waltham Cultural Council

The Waltham Cultural Council is a part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council local council program. It allocates funds for arts, sciences and humanities projects and events focusing on Waltham’s cultural diversity and local history.

The WCC will hold the first of its grant review meetings for this year’s grant cycle at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Tree removal hearing

The city’s tree warden will hold a special public hearing to discuss the removal of eleven public trees, located on Ellison Park, James Street, Wilmot Road, Ash Street, Pine HIll Circle, Candace Avenue, Sheffield Road, Charles Street and Hardy Pond Road, for a variety of health and safety reasons.

The Department of Public Works will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. on Friday at 167 Lexington St. The city has asked that anyone with a complaint submit it in writing in advance of the meeting to kthompson@city.waltham.ma.us.

  1. It amazes me how I do not receive notice of the meetings until after the fact. I had no idea until this morning. Also I’m this article, you say the day but not the actual date. So I miss all of it. I can’t tell how many people are in the room either.
Put the Date, Day and time ahead of the event.
This isn’t the first time this has happened either.
    Geez.
    WT isn’t getting any better.

    • Thanks for commenting. The article states that “The event is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the city’s Clark Government Center at 119 School St.” Our events calendar also lists all of the candidate events in advance, and they are listed in the e-newsletter in advance as well. We’ll review how our information is being posted to try to improve “findability.” Your feedback is always valued and welcome.
