Walk, run, give back at Waltham Community Day Center 5K

Runners and walkers can still register for the Community Day Center of Waltham’s second annual Mission MetroWest road race, set for Sunday, May 31, at Prospect Hill Park. The event is from 8 a.m. to noon, with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. Organizers ask participants to arrive between 7:30 and 8 a.m.

The race marks the culmination of the month-long “Mission MetroWest: A Mile a Day in May” fundraising campaign. Throughout May, participants have pledged to walk or run at least one mile each day while collecting donations from sponsors and supporters to benefit the center.

Funds raised through the event will go toward repairs for the building that houses CDCW’s overnight shelter program. Organizers say the building is in critical need of improvements. The center provides meals, clothing, showers, laundry services and case management for some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.

According to the organization, the deteriorating condition of the building could place the overnight program at risk in the coming years if repairs are not made.

“We hope that our friends and neighbors will come out and have fun with a walk/run at Prospect Hill Park,” said CDCW caseworker Rich Seale. “Their participation in this worthy cause goes a long way. It allows us the resources that we might not otherwise have to reach out and connect with our neighbors in need.”
