Waltham youth eligible for Middlesex Safety Academy; registration opens June 1

Waltham youth can sign up beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, June 1, for the 2026 Youth Public Safety Academy, Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian announced.
The summer program is open to children ages 8 to 12 across Middlesex County, including Waltham. Teens ages 13 to 15 may participate as counselors in training.
Hosted at the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Training Academy in Chelmsford, the program offers five one-week sessions featuring hands-on activities with law enforcement and other first responders. The curriculum focuses on public safety, teamwork and leadership.
Waltham is included as a designated bus stop for the July 20–24 session, along with Newton. Participants may attend any week but must use listed bus stop locations for transportation.
Registration is $125 per child per week and includes transportation from bus stops, meals and a weekly graduation ceremony. Space is limited, and registration closes at noon June 15.
Families must register and pay online at the time of sign-up. A limited number of scholarships are available.
Registration opens June 1 at the Middlesex Sheriff website.
