Four more Moody Street restaurants get outdoor dining permits

Four businesses – Deep Ellum, Lizzy’s Ice Cream, Peppino’s Dosa and Farmer’s India Market – were approved for outdoor dining on Moody Street at the License Commission meeting this week. The City Council and Traffic Commission had already approved the applications before sending them to the License Commission for final approval.

The permit allows restaurants to block off parking spaces in front of their shops and use that space for outdoor dining. The outdoor dining season lasts from May 22 until Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day. Applications have been late this year despite their being available since March 23.

The commission approved all applications with no further questions. The next step is for restaurants to set up their barriers and call the city’s building department for an inspection and final approval.

In other business, the commission:

• Approved a one-day all alcohol permit for for a reception at Bentley University on Sept. 18.
• Approved a one-day beer and wine permit for beer trucks to be present at an event in September at CBRE Property on Second Avenue.
• Decided to not place anything on file regarding a medical incident at Mighty Squirrel on Waverly Oaks Road that took place in May. The incident was not due to the customer being overserved, so the commissioners decided to make a note of the incident rather than place the police report in the company’s file.
• Heard communication from David Gordon, co-owner of Gordon’s Liquors, regarding a free liquor license he had been granted in 2023. The license had been intended for use at a property on Main Street where Gordon wanted to open Sonny’s Restaurant in honor of his late grandfather. Gordon told the commission in March that he would submit permits for the project by June 1. Gordon informed the commission via email prior to the commission’s June meeting that he will be returning the license, as the project is not moving forward. The commission requested that Gordon appear in person to discuss the matter, but he was not present.
