The week ahead: Zoning board discusses Opportunities for Inclusion property

Local nonprofit Opportunities for Inclusion will come before the Waltham Zoning Board of Appeals this Tuesday to appeal a decision by the building department.

The nonprofit’s buildings at 15-21 Fiske Ave. are nonconforming, with special variances for a back deck that extends into the zoning-mandated clear area at the back of the property. After the organization combined its two lots, the building department determined the new, combined lot still violated zoning regulations, and Opportunities for Inclusion is seeking to renew its variances.

Documents filed with the city two weeks ago indicate that the nonprofit doesn’t plan to expand its headquarters beyond what is currently allowed by zoning regulations. 

At the same July 28 meeting, taking place as usual at 7 p.m. at the Clark Government Center, the ZBA will rule on a petition from the owners of a River Street home asking to install an above-regulation-height detached garage in its backyard.

Otherwise, the week promises to be relatively slow for city government. Aside from the ZBA meeting, no other municipal bodies have filed notice for meetings.
