Public Safety Watch: Waltham man arrested on multiple motor vehicle warrants

A motor vehicle accident resulted in the arrest of a Waltham man for multiple arrest warrants related to alleged motor vehicle violations.

The arrest stems from a report of a motor vehicle accident at 100 Middlesex Road on April 5 around 4:50 a.m.

Responding officers determined that one of the involved parties, Mynor Cornelio-Ortiz, 22, of 150 Weston St., had a suspended license and multiple arrest warrants.

Two warrants were related to motor vehicle accidents that took place in 2022 in Waltham. One was on Sept. 3 at 12 Bedford St., where he was cited for unlicensed, uninsured and unregistered operation of a motor vehicle as well as unspecified motorcycle equipment and passing violations. 

Another happened on Sept. 11 at the intersection of Prospect and Felton streets, where he was cited for failing to stop at a red light, a marked lane violation and unlicensed and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

A third warrant was related to charges filed by the Massachusetts State Police for speeding and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in Georgetown on July 16, 2022.

Cornelio-Ortiz was arrested at 5:26 a.m.

Additional police activity

A summary of police activity from April 4 to April 10 is as follows:

On April 4 at 1:23 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Crescent Street to assist the Watertown Police Department with locating a vehicle with multiple motor vehicle violations. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

At 7:33 a.m. police responded to a report of a past break-in at a property on Jennings Road. A contractor reported that a table saw and an electric handsaw, worth around $1,100, were stolen from a garage at that location. Police are investigating the theft.

At 3:22 p.m. police responded to a report of 10 juveniles causing a disturbance in the area of 1088 Lexington St. Officers spoke to the individuals and resolved the issue without incident.

On April 5 around 12:20 a.m., police responded to The Westin Waltham-Boston at 70 Third Ave. According to police, an individual, who sounded intoxicated, had called 911 multiple times from the hotel. Upon arrival, officers observed Ronnie Burgess, 25, of 54 Perley St., Concord, slumped in front of a pole at the location. Hotel employees told police that Burgess was asked to leave his room due to his state of intoxication. While officers were investigating the matter, Burgess began yelling and kicking the pole. When police attempted to arrest Burgess for disorderly conduct, he resisted before he was eventually handcuffed. Burgess was arrested at 1:01 a.m. for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Paul Hampe, 56, of 33 Billings St., West Roxbury, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. for receiving stolen property worth more than $1,200.

At 1:23 p.m. police received a report from a parent about past incidents that occurred between that parent’s child and another student at the city’s Valor High School at 617 Lexington St. Police said the school resource officers are looking into the matter and declined to give further details on the incident due to the ages of those involved.

On April 6 at 12:10 p.m., police responded to a report of a customer being verbally abusive toward staff at Panera Bread at 1030 Main St. The customer left the site before police arrived.

At 3:23 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny at Market Basket at 110 Market Place Drive. Employees told police that they had observed a man ordering prepared food and leaving the store without paying, saying he does so on a regular basis. Police located the man who admitted to this behavior and paid the store back. Police gave the man a trespass notice, barring him from entering the store again.

At 7:27 p.m. police assisted a vehicle that was stuck behind the gates of Prospect Hill Park at 314 Totten Pond Road, as the gates are locked after the park is closed for the night. Police helped the party exit the property.

On April 7 at 7:10 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash at 200 Smith St. Upon arrival, police determined that the damage between the two vehicles was minor. Police assisted the parties with exchanging the proper paperwork.

At 3:17 p.m. police responded to a report of a hit-and-run at a residence on Prospect Street. Damage was found on a vehicle parked in the driveway, the siding of the house and a pole located on the property. Police are investigating the incident.

On April 8 at 12:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault and battery at 404 Wyman St. According to a police spokesperson, an individual on an MBTA bus had allegedly slapped another passenger. The suspect then got off the bus and walked toward Winter Street. Officers stood by while members of the MBTA Transit Police Department responded and addressed the situation.

At 3:04 p.m. police responded to a report of a motor vehicle hit-and-run at the intersection of Banks Street and Columbus Avenue. A person walking past the intersection reported seeing a vehicle hit a parked vehicle. Police could not locate either of the involved vehicles and did not receive any additional reports on the matter.

Javaun Cooper, 34, of 21 Beveridge St., Teaneck, New Jersey, was booked at the Waltham Police Department at 5:59 p.m. after being arrested by Bentley University police on a warrant for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

At 7:57 p.m. police responded to a report of shoplifting at Hannaford Supermarket at 55 Russell St. The loss prevention department caught a man attempting to leave the store with merchandise worth $50 in his pockets. He was given a trespass notice.

On April 9 at 9:25 a.m., police responded to a report from a School Street residence regarding threatening text messages. Police spoke to the involved parties and advised them of their options.

At 10:07 a.m. police responded to a report of a package theft at the Edison on the Charles apartment complex at 20 Cooper St. The package was reportedly taken from the front of the building. The matter is under investigation.

At 3:34 p.m. police responded to a report of a package theft at a residence on Willow Street. The reporting party stated that the package was stolen sometime between March 29 and April 1. The matter is under investigation.

Brian Dunning, 43, of 12 Lowell St., Waltham, was arrested at 10:38 p.m. for assault and battery of someone over 60 years old or disabled. According to docket information from the Waltham District Court, he pleaded not guilty to these charges on April 10 and was released on personal recognizance, meaning he was released without jail time on the condition that he would show up to his next court date on May 27.

On April 10 at 12:32 a.m., police responded to a report of a scam involving packages at a residence on Lawrence Street. The reporting party received several packages that had not been ordered, with the packages featuring QR codes on the inside. Police advised the resident that this was possibly a brushing or quishing scam.

At 1:05 a.m. police responded to a report of a past break-in at a residence on Crescent Street. The reporting party discovered several items missing after returning home. Police are investigating the incident.

Nancy Driscoll, 44, of 48 Pine St., Waltham, was arrested at 11:57 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. If convicted, this would be her fourth DUI offense.
