Girlstart is hosting Wild World, a free, week-long day camp in Waltham for students entering 4th or 5th grade in 2025-2026. Girlstart is a national nonprofit organization offering year-round out-of-school programs to empower girls through STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

The first session will run July 21 to 25 at FitzGerald Elementary. The second will run July 28 to Aug. 1 at MacArthur Elementary.

The camps will offer hands-on science and engineering activities to explore popular nature topics. Campers will tackle projects such as designing gliders that fly like a bird, building a “circuit bug” and crafting a habitat for an axolotl.

According to Girlstart, the camp allows children to “dive into science, technology, engineering and math in engaging ways – sparking curiosity and encouraging a lasting interest in STEM careers.”

Parents and guardians should sign up a participant for just one of the weeks.

  1. GirlsStart is a great opportunity for young girls to sink their teeth into STEM.
My cousin, age 12, in Bristol, CT goes to a public STEM school in Hartford, and is thriving with eyes towards MIT.
I encourage all parents to avail their daughters of this marvelous, free workshop.
