Waltham shows its heart at fundraiser for 5-year-old battling cancer

The Waltham Youth Football & Cheer community hosted “Touchdowns for Declan” on Saturday evening at Leary Field, a flag football fundraiser in support of Declan Lyons, a local child who has been battling stage 4 brain cancer for more than two years.

Declan was diagnosed at age 3 and has been undergoing treatment ever since. His father, Robert (Bobby) Lyons, is associate principal at Waltham High School, and his mother, Sarah Wroblewski, is a meteorologist at WBZ-TV. The family has been sharing updates on CaringBridge and a GoFundMe has been set up to help cover medical expenses.

Waltham mothers took the field for a spirited night of friendly competition, teamwork and community pride. The event united players, families and supporters to raise funds for Declan’s  family and show what it means to step up for one of their own.
