Public safety report: Person injured after alleged fight on Lowell Street involving hammer
One person was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries after an alleged fight involving a hammer on Lowell Street.
On June 4 at 6:57 p.m., police responded to reports of a fight on Lowell Street. The individual who called in the incident informed police that one person involved in the fight had a hammer. When officers arrived, there was a large group of people but no active fight.
No one on-scene was willing to provide any details to police about what happened. A hammer was located in the area, but did not appear to have been used in the fight. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police are not actively investigating the incident at this time.
A summary of additional police and fire activity from June 2 to June 9 is as follows:
On June 2 at 10:13 a.m., police responded to reports of a sick raccoon on Brewster Road. Animal control was dispatched as well. The sick raccoon was transported to a local veterinarian.
On June 2 at 5:17 p.m., police responded to reports of a man “luring kids” at the Fitzgerald Elementary School playground. Upon investigation, it turned out to be a man who did not speak much English who was with his child trying to ask about sports game times.
On June 3 at 9:26 a.m., police responded to reports of discarded mail left at the Waltham Public Library. On the same day at 10:13 a.m., a call came in about a stolen package on Main Street. Police were able to locate the stolen package in the mail left at the library.
On June 4 at 12:15 a.m., an officer was approached by a man who wanted to turn in a rifle round that he had found while walking near the old administration building of the Metropolitan State Hospital at 475 Trapelo Road. Officers checked the area but didn’t find additional ammunition.
On June 4 at 12:41 a.m., fire crews responded to Hannaford Supermarket on Russell Street. A burnt-out motor on top of a refrigerator unit was smoking. Crews shut down power to the unit and building maintenance handled the rest of the incident.
On June 4 at 7:51 p.m., police responded to reports of vandalism on Cutter Street. Someone had drawn profane content in pollen on the caller’s car. There was no damage to the vehicle.
On June 5 at 7:26 p.m., a fire crew responded to reports of an outdoor fire at Subway on Lexington Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a small patch of mulch that was on fire. Crews were able to extinguish the fire with water. The next day at 3:46 p.m., a fire crew responded to a similar mulch fire on Middlesex Circle. They extinguished that fire with water as well.
On June 6 at 6:21 p.m., police responded to reports of a suspicious incident on Main Street. Someone had broken a wine bottle and left the area. A witness on-scene described seeing a man dropping a wine bottle, becoming upset that it broke and then leaving the area.
On June 8 at 6:49 p.m., police responded to Prestige Car Wash on Elm Street. A vehicle was stuck in the middle of the car wash. Eventually, the car was maneuvered back onto the track and able to exit the car wash. There were no injuries.
