Woman pleads not guilty to charge of assault and battery after incident at Connors Memorial Pool

A woman has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault and battery after an alleged altercation at Connors Memorial Pool.

On July 3 at 5:50 p.m., a State Police trooper responded to a call from the state-run pool at 330 River St. The trooper was joined by four Waltham officers. According to the police report, the manager of the pool had asked a group of four people to leave the pool for being disruptive. She told them they would not face a no trespassing order for the whole season but needed to leave for the remainder of the day. 

A Waltham police officer helped translate the message to the group, who had limited English skills. The group eventually agreed to leave. While leaving, the group began to argue with the manager. According to the police report, a woman identified as Deysi Y. Barahona Alvarado, 44, of Orange, struck the manager several times while police were watching. She was arrested and transported to the Massachusetts State Police Boston Barracks to be booked.

Alvarado pleaded not guilty on July 6 to a charge of assault and battery in relation to the incident. Judge Ellen M. Caulo released Alvarado on personal recognizance. A pretrial hearing for the case will take place Aug. 24.

Additional court activity

Matthew Hoffsommer, 31, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on June 30 to a charge of assault and battery on a person over 60 or a disabled person. The charge is in relation to an event that took place in an apartment in Waltham. Hoffsommer was released on personal recognizance by Caulo and will face a motion hearing for his case on July 14.

Jonathan Quintanilla, 26, homeless, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on July 1 to a charge of trespassing. He was arrested on June 29 for the same charge. Both alleged trespassing incidents took place in Waltham. Quintanilla was released on personal recognizance by Caulo and will face pretrial hearings for both trespassing charges on Sept. 3.

Christopher Leaman, 32, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on July 2 to two counts of strangulation or suffocation, two counts of assault and battery on a family or household member, and one count of assault and battery with serious bodily injury. The charges are in relation to an alleged altercation between Leaman and a woman at a residence in Waltham. Leaman is being held on grounds of dangerousness at Middlesex Jail and will face a pretrial hearing on July 29 for his case.

Robert H. Jackson Jr., 34, homeless, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on July 3 to a charge of receiving a stolen motor vehicle subsequent offense. The charge is in relation to a moped that was stolen from a residence on Alder Street in late June. Jackson was released on personal recognizance by Caulo. A pretrial hearing for his case will take place Aug. 13.
