Waltham man arrested for third time in three weeks following alleged car break-in

A Waltham man is facing felony charges after an alleged car break-in in Warrendale, making this his third arrest in three weeks.

On July 12 at 8:03 p.m., police responded to reports of an unknown man walking through backyards and looking into windows in the area of Byron Road. According to the police report, the caller had been sitting inside his house when the male walked into the caller’s backyard and began looking into the windows of nearby houses. When the caller went out to confront the male, he ran away, leaving an orange bike propped up against the caller’s garage.

A group of officers was able to catch up to the man, identified as Jonathan Quintanilla, 26, homeless, of Waltham, near the site of a reported car break-in on Bruce Road. The man who had called in the break-in said he had seen Quintanilla open the door of his car, sit inside the car for 20 seconds, then get out, closing the door behind him. 

According to the police report, the man then observed Quintanilla get onto a bike and ride away. Quintanilla was ultimately arrested. Quintanilla was previously arrested on June 29 and July 1 for trespassing in Waltham.

Quintanilla is being charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle during the daytime with the intent to commit a felony. He is being held without bail for 90 days at Middlesex County Jail based on a motion submitted by the state and allowed by Judge Ellen M. Caulo. It is unclear how he pleaded based on the information available in the MassCourts database. He will face a pre-trial hearing for this case on Aug. 12.

Additional court activity

Michael Gray, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of a class A drug. The charge is in relation to an event that took place on Waltham Common. He was released on personal recognizance by Caulo and will face a pre-trial hearing for his case on Aug. 25.

Liana C. Alonge, 41, of Waltham, had a charge of possession of a class B drug dismissed by Judge Amanda Ward on July 2. The charge was in relation to an alleged incident that took place in Waltham in April. It is unclear based on information available via MassCourts why the charge was dismissed.

Mark Springstead, 68, of Waltham, had a charge of possession of a class B substance subsequent offense dismissed by Caulo on July 14. The charge was in relation to an alleged hand-to-hand drug deal that took place in February near Moody Street Liquors. It is unclear based on information available via MassCourts why the charge was dismissed.
