Meet the candidates event at Paine Estate on July 26

The Waltham Democratic City Committee will host its annual Meet the Candidates Forum on Sunday, July 26, at Stonehurst, the Robert Treat Paine Estate, offering residents a chance to hear directly from Democratic Party candidates ahead of the fall elections.

The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stonehurst, 100 Robert Treat Paine Drive, will focus on federal, state and county races appearing on Waltham ballots in September and November.

Candidates will deliver brief introductory remarks beginning at 11 a.m., followed by an informal networking session designed to give attendees the opportunity to speak one-on-one or in small groups with those seeking office.

Organizers said the format is intended to encourage more direct and candid conversations between voters and candidates about policy priorities, campaign issues and their vision for the community.

The forum is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

The WDCC said the annual event aims to boost civic engagement and increase awareness of local and regional races.

Invited candidates

The WDDC has invited all Democratic candidates listed below. These contests will be decided in the state primary on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. An asterisk indicates the candidate has accepted the invitation as of today.

Waltham voters can cast ballots only in the races that cover their district. The city sits in the 5th Congressional District, the 3rd Governor’s Council District and the 3rd Middlesex Senate District, and is split between the 9th and 10th Middlesex House districts.

• Edward J. Markey — Incumbent U.S. senator seeking a third full term; first elected to the Senate in 2013 after decades in the U.S. House.
• Seth Moulton — Challenger; U.S. representative for the 6th Congressional District since 2015, running against Markey on a generational-change message.

• Katherine M. Clark* — Incumbent U.S. representative and House minority whip in office since 2013, seeking reelection.
• Jonathan Paz*— Challenger in the 5th District primary.
