Pausing for a swan on the ride to work

Every day during the warmer seasons, I ride my bike on the Mass Central Rail Trail from Market Basket to Lexington Street,  go down to Moody Street and continue east on the Charles River Greenway to Newton, where I work. 

Recently, as I rode to and from work on the trail, I kept seeing a brilliant white swan swimming between the Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation and the Bleachery Dam. So one morning I decided to take my 300mm lens and try to capture its beauty.

This particular swan is known as a mute swan. With its distinct pure white feathers, orange bill and generally less vocal character, I have always enjoyed observing them at the Public Garden in Boston. But now I have the chance to pause on my commute, take in the sounds and smells of the river and watch this peaceful bird have breakfast.
