Waltham man faces charges after allegedly striking police officer with truck

A Waltham man is facing charges after allegedly striking a police officer with his truck. Steven J. Schofield, 58, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on June 15 to charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to slow and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license subsequent offense.
On June 8 at 5:09 p.m., officers were at the intersection of Prospect Hill Road and Prentice Street responding to a motor vehicle collision. According to the police report, police attending to the collision encountered Schofield driving a gray truck, identifying him from multiple prior interactions with the police. Schofield drove up Prospect Hill Street, eventually striking an officer with his passenger side mirror. The officer was not injured. Officers were unable to stop the truck at the time.
Schofield had received a previous citation for driving with a suspended license in October 2025. Schofield was ordered to be held at Middlesex Jail in lieu of posting bail by Judge Ellen M. Caulo. He will face a pretrial hearing July 9 for this case.
Schofield received an additional charge of assault and battery on a person over 60 or a disabled person for an unrelated incident in Waltham on June 9. It is unclear from the information on MassCourts how Schofield pleaded. Schofield will face a pretrial hearing July 9 for this case as well.
Additional court activity
Luis D. Trinidad Figueroa, 24, of Gardner, pleaded not guilty on June 11 to three counts of malicious damage of property valued at less than $1,200 and one count of malicious damage to a motor vehicle. The charges are in relation to an event that took place at a residence in Waltham. Trinidad Figueroa was released on personal recognizance by Caulo and will face a pretrial hearing July 28.
